WinCo Announces Opening of Phoenix Distribution Center

WinCo Foods LLC announced today that it will begin shipping from its newest distribution center located at 7502 W. Durango St., Phoenix, Arizona, on Monday, May 14, 2014. The center, which includes over 900,000 square feet of warehouse space under roof, will initially service nineteen (19) WinCo Foods stores located in Arizona, Southern Nevada and Southern California. The facility will open with approximately 185 employees most of whom have been hired from the greater Phoenix market. The 19 stores represent a little more than half of the facility’s capacity. A venture formed by a division of the McShane Cos. plans to develop a 155,000-square-foot speculative industrial project in Phoenix on the heels of the company selling a medical facility in Gilbert. Permits Rise in March, But Homebuilding Still Slow

New-home permits across metro Phoenix ticked up slightly in March, but the long-awaited recovery for home construction in the area remains stalled. Last month, 996 permits for new single-family Valley houses were issued, 98 more than in February, according to the latest issue of RL Brown Reports. US Consumer Spending Surged 0.9 Percent in March

U.S. consumers ramped up spending in March at the fastest pace in 4½ years, a sign the economy is gaining momentum after its winter slowdown. The Commerce Department says consumer spending rose 0.9 percent, the largest gain since April 2009.
