Citi: Commercial real estate loans are coming back
Analysts at Citigroup said lending on commercial real estate finally is recovering. On the U.S. West Coast, lenders are starting to compete for the chance to make real estate loans secured by commercial properties, they said. In a research note, the bank said there have been recent signs of “aggressive” competition among insurance companies and foreign banks to write loans on office properties.

Housing starts slide in West, but single-family construction up

Construction of new housing in the Western states, including Arizona, fell 1.6 percent in July from the previous month, the second straight monthly decline, and was off 31.9 percent from a year earlier, the U.S. Department of Commerce reported Tuesday.
