Phoenix purchases more land for desert preserve The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has closed on the purchase of 270 acres of private property for the Sonoran Preserve in the northern part of the city. A city news release says the latest parcel provides a crucial connection between two much larger areas of the Sonoran Preserve and brings the new preserves total size to a little less than 7,000 acres. Hospitality jobs have yet to rebound in Arizona The leisure and hospitality sector may be bouncing back from the recession in much of the country, but not Arizona. The state has lost 2,100 hospitality jobs since 2009, the number now standing at 252,200, according to an analysis of new federal data by sister publication Business First of Buffalo. View article…

Case-Shiller: Phoenix home prices down again Phoenix and 15 other major metros tracked by the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices reported decreases in home-sale prices in October from the same month in 2009. The Phoenix area was not the worst, however. Tuesday’s report put the October year over year drop at 4.3 percent, the fourth highest drop. From September to October, all markets reported prices declines with Phoenix at 1.1 percent. From August to September the decline was 1.5 percent. View article…

L&G Mortgagebanc to hire 100 L&G Mortgagebanc will hire 100 new loan officers across seven western states, including Arizona, during the first quarter of 2011. Laura Cohen, vice president of marketing, expects one-third of the 100 new loan officers to be hired in Scottsdale. View article…
