$27 million veterans home dedicated in Tucson Aging and disabled Tucson-area veterans who require skilled nursing care now have a brand-new facility to address those needs. State officials, including Gov. Jan Brewer and Secretary of State Ken Bennett, dedicated the 130,000-square-foot Arizona State Veterans Home in Tucson on Friday. The new home means the state will now be able to fill a hole in its services network by providing high-level care to those in need, officials said. View article…

South Phoenix housing project replaces crime-ridden complex A housing project in south Phoenix to assist non-traditional families is removing what residents there long-considered an epicenter for local crime. The housing development non-profit group, Tanner Properties, and Los Angeles-based Alliance Property Group are building an $11.5 million, multi-family residence at 1640 E. Roeser Road for families in which grandparents are raising their grandchildren. The Grandfamilies Place housing project is the first of its kind in Phoenix, and, according to Phoenix housing officials, probably one of only two in the country. View article…

BLM solar zone plan gets Phoenix meeting The U.S. Bureau of Land Management will bring a revised plan to put solar energy zones throughout the west to a meeting in Phoenix next month. Fed’s Williams calls U.S. economy lackluster, but bright on Phoenix Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco President John C. Williams said the U.S. central bank needs to take continued action to support the economic recovery in the face of stubbornly high unemployment, receding inflation and modest growth. Williams called the economic recovery “lackluster,” and said it is likely to continue in that vein in a prepared speech this morning to the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce in Scottsdale. Phoenix wage gains far outpace rest of West Phoenix-area employee compensation is up 2.9 percent in the past year — the largest gain among major cities in the West. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Employee Cost Index released today, that 2.9 percent growth rate in wages and benefits topped the U.S. average of 2.1 percent. View article…

Phoenix-area Foreclosures Hit Lowest Level since Spring 2009 The Phoenix-area housing market is starting to see a little relief from the foreclosure crisis. A new report from the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University shows that, in October, foreclosures made up 26 percent of the existing-home transactions in the market. That’s the lowest level since April 2009. Still, the report’s author wants to be clear, the end is not in sight. View article…
