Ak-Chin Indian Community breaks ground on $35M family entertainment complex The Ak-Chin Indian Community near Maricopa broke ground Tuesday on a $35 million family entertainment complex directly north of Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Resort. The 162,000-square-foot complex will include a 12-screen movie theater, bowling alley, arcade, restaurants and outdoor amphitheater. View article…

Furniture King opens in vacant Borders building in Glendale Contrary to recent trends, a newly vacant storefront near 73rd Avenue and Bell Road was filled after being empty for about a month. The space, which was home to a Borders bookstore, is now a Furniture King retail store. The new shop opened Nov. 1. Furniture King owner Scott Menaged said he started making a deal with the property owner in the first week of October. Borders closed at the end of September. View article…

Veterinarian clinic moves to Gilbert The owners of the former McQueen Veterinarian Clinic in Chandler have a new name and new location. Now called Crossroads Veterinary Hospital, it has moved to 3871 S. Gilbert Road, on the northeastern corner of Gilbert and Germann roads, in Gilbert. It had been at Pecos and McQueen roads, Chandler. Scottsdale flood-hazard map updated Recently updated flood-insurance maps identify about 700 properties north of Lone Mountain Road that fall in a “special flood hazard” area. The new designation requires property owners with federally backed mortgages to purchase flood insurance, according to the city. The deadline for property owners and tenants to appeal the designation is Jan. 18. View article…

Companies cleaning Superfund site to host open house today Companies charged with cleaning up a local Superfund site are hosting an open house Wednesday to discuss a planned water-treatment system near McDonald Drive and Cattletrack Road. Motorola, Siemens and GlaxoSmithKline had offered to build and pay for the system that will remove groundwater contaminants from a local well and deliver the treated water to Scottsdale water customers.
