HOUSTON-BASED FIRM ASSEMBLING SITE IN TEMPE FOR STUDENT HOUSING PROJECT (I know all about this project. It is called The District. If you want more information, let me know.) Residential Housing Development LLC in Houston, Tex. (Lloyd Ecclestone, Derek Anderson, Nick Anderson, partners) is assembling a 5.62-acre site located southeast of Arizona State University in Tempe to develop a 279-unit, 905-bed apartment project. The property is located along the south side of Apache Boulevard and just east of Rural Road. MARK-TAYLOR WANTS TO BUILD 384 APARTMENTS ON FIDDLESTICKS SITE IN TEMPE (I know about this project as well. Both of these projects were presented at the Design Review Commission.) Mark-Taylor Inc. in Scottsdale (Jeff Mark, Scott Taylor, principals) plans to build an apartment community on a site located along the south side of Elliot Road and just south of Hardy Drive in Tempe. The 19.5-acre parcel is now occupied by the Fiddlesticks Family Fun Park. Sources say Mark-Taylor has agreed to buy the property contingent on zoning approval. Cajun restaurant replaces Krispy Kreme shop in Peoria Anyone recently showing up to the Arrowhead area Krispy Kreme for a sugar fix walked away disappointed. The doughnut shop near 83rd Avenue and Bell Road closed Aug. 8. A new restaurant opening at the location this week won’t offer doughnuts, but it will offer some Cajun cooking. View article…

Paradise Bakery to open in downtown Scottsdale Paradise Bakery & Cafe plans to open a downtown Scottsdale restaurant in the building that previously housed Fuddruckers, on Indian School Road just west of Old Town. The building, 7145 E. Indian School, has been vacant since Fuddruckers closed last fall. Paradise has a location in Scottsdale Fashion Square, but this will be its first downtown. The restaurant will open in November, said Louie Kizis, Paradise Bakery’s director of marketing. View article…

Grand Canyon University ready to open new $40 million arena Grand Canyon University officials broke ground on a sports and entertainment arena last summer. Fifteen months and $40 million later, the school will celebrate the completion of the 135,000 square-foot facility Thursday. View article…

Corner Bakery Cafe Planned for Arizona Center Downtown Phoenix dining continues to diversify with the news that a new bakery/caf is readying to open in the Arizona Center later this year. Arizona State University’s Downtown Devil has reported that the Corner Bakery Caf’ will open sometime in October in the space formerly occupied by Out West Gifts. View article…
