Oregano’s ready to open new Scottsdale digs Oregano’s is set to open its new Scottsdale location in less than two weeks. The Business Journal’s Lynn Ducey reports the grand opening for the chain’s Old Town location will be May 5 in the building that formerly housed Sugar Daddy’s. The new location replaces the company’s first restaurant, which opened in 1993. View article…

Mesa lands Westminster College The city of Mesa has signed a deal with Westminster College to bring a campus to the state’s third largest city. The Business Journal’s Angela Gonzales reports the Fulton, Mo.-based Westminster will bring a variety of programs to the campus with classes starting in fall 2013. The deal still must be ratified by the Mesa City Council, which will vote on it Thursday. View article…

Golf center added at Desert Mountain community Desert Mountain has added a $1.6 million golf-instructional facility equipped with some of the latest technology. The 6,500-square-foot Golf Performance Center is the first major amenity completed at the community in far north Scottsdale since January 2011, when the members took over control of the club. It is just south of the driving range at the Renegade golf course. View article…

Phoenix officials mark opening of housing for homeless City officials, community partners and neighbors last week commemorated the official opening of Collins Court Apartments, a rehabilitated complex at 10421 N. 33rd Ave. that will provide 80 units of permanent supportive housing for the homeless. The complex is named in honor of Kevin Collins, a shelter manager with Central Arizona Shelter Services who was gunned down in 2009. Formerly known as Royal Suites, the bank-owned complex was run-down and half-empty when Arizona Housing Inc. purchased it in late 2010. View article…

Arizona may seek return of federally held lands The Arizona Legislature took a step in trying to reclaim lands owned by the federal government with a bill passed by the House of Representatives on Monday. Reuters reports the bill would seek to have the federal government return to state control more than 48,000 square miles it owns within Arizona by 2015. View article…

HOUSING:
Phoenix home prices rise amid nationwide drops Phoenix home prices have risen for the fifth straight month, despite continued declines in most major U.S. cities, according to the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home-price index for February. The Associated Press reports prices rose in Phoenix, San Diego and Miami but fell in 15 out of 20 markets in the report. View article…

Case Shiller Indexes Down 6th Straight Month The Case Shiller Home Price Indexes fell for the sixth straight month in February with the 10- and 20-city indices each dropping 0.8 percent from January, Standard & Poor’s, which compiles the indexes, reported Tuesday morning. The 10-city index slid to its lowest level since May 2003 and the 20-city index dropped to its lowest level since October 2002. View article…

March New Home Sales In Steepest Drop in 13 Months New homes sales fell 7.1 percent in March to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 328,000, the steepest percentage decline since February 2011, the Commerce Department and Department of Housing and Urban Development reported jointly Tuesday. Sales for January were revised upward from 313,000 to 353,000. Economists had expected the report to show a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 318,000 new home sales in March. New home sales in March were up 7.5 percent from March 2011. View article…
