Scottsdale luxury apartment, retail project gets approval An apartment complex and boutique shopping area at a high profile corner in Scottsdale are one step closer to reality. By a vote of 5-2, the Scottsdale City Council this week approved a plan for Alliance Residential Co. to build 264 high-end units on 5.3 acres of land at the northwest corner of Scottsdale Road and Lincoln Drive. Some 23,000 square feet of retail space will front Scottsdale Road as part of the project, according to Michael Lieb, the broker handling the deal. View article…

NW Valley land will shape into recreation area A 110-square-mile recreation area that eventually will include hiking and off-road-vehicle trails, campgrounds and wildlife-observation areas will soon start taking shape around the Vulture Mountains in the far northwest Valley. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors this week directed county parks and recreation staff to begin the $29 million, 30-year project, the first large-scale county-parks project since the 1990s. Mesa goes after Fiesta Village again Mesa has opened a new code-compliance case — at least the 13th in the last nine years — against the empty Fiesta Village shopping center at Southern Avenue and Alma School Road. It is the latest chapter in an epic struggle over the future of one of Mesa’s most important commercial intersections — so important that the city is preparing to spend $11 million to improve the streetscape and, hopefully, attract investment to the neighborhood. Outlet mall on Gila River land concerns Chandler Construction will start before summer on an upscale 90-store outlet mall south of Chandler on the Gila River Reservation. Developers made the announcement during a ceremonial lease-signing last week, and that’s worrying Chandler officials who fear the new center will siphon shoppers and tax dollars from the city’s nearby regional mall. Report: Best and Worst States for Business Taxes Wyoming, South Dakota and Nevada are among the 10 best states for taxes on business, while California, New York and New Jersey are among the 10 worst, according to a new report, State Business Tax Climate Index, from the Washington-based Tax Foundation.
