At 1.47 million, Phoenix remains 6th-largest city Phoenix is holding steady as the sixth-largest city in the nation with nearly 1.47 million residents, the latest census data show. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates released late last month show that Phoenix added 23,815 people from April 1, 2010, to July 1, 2011, and still trails the nation’s five largest cities: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Philadelphia respectively. Lennar pays $5M for 200 homesites in Queen Creek, El Mirage Miami-based Lennar Corp. (NYSE: LEN) closed three land deals this week totaling about $5 million to acquire nearly 200 homesites it believes will spur growth of three Valley communities, the home builder said in a prepared statement this week. Two of the three acquisitions are in master-planned communities in the town of Queen Creek: San Tan Heights and Skyline Ranch. The third transaction was for additional homesites in the Discovery at Montecito community, which recently opened in El Mirage. View article…

New Goodwill store near Litchfield Park can create jobs At Goodwill of Central Arizona thrift stores, donations mean jobs. The new, 27,500-square-foot Goodwill store that opens today near Litchfield Park will create 35 jobs for the area. Also, donated clothes and household goods sold at the shop help fund Goodwill career centers, which provide resources and job training for unemployed Arizonans, said Jackie Halleen, Goodwill vice president of retail operations. Barclays: Trends Suggest Recovery is Sustainable The housing recovery is strengthening and turning onto a sustainable path, Barclays said in a report Wednesday.
