Revamped Vee Quiva Casino & Hotel set to break ground Tutor Perini Building Corp. is set to break ground Thursday on what will be the revamped Vee Quiva Casino & Hotel in the West Valley town of Laveen, and the Gila River Indian Community is kicking off the milestone with an invite-only ribbon cutting ceremony. Las Vegas-based Tutor Perini is aiming to wrap up construction of the roughly $135 million facility in time for the scheduled summer 2013 opening. Tempe mayor halts council meeting; Gracie’s Village vote put off Residents may have felt the Tempe City Council was channeling “Cinderella” last Thursday when, during a heated discussion about a proposed apartment complex, Mayor Hugh Hallman announced the meeting must end at the stroke of midnight. Consumer fraud action shuts down Tempe transmission business Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne announced Tuesday that a Maricopa County Superior Court judge has approved an action that has resulted in the closure of a Tempe transmission business for failing to respond to consumer complaints. A judge approved an addendum to consent judgment, requiring Transplant Plus Transmissions to cease operations after the shop violated a previous judgment that the state filed against it last year. Rightpath developer Rick Burton files bankruptcy Rick Burton, who was in development deals that brought corporate jet hubs to Arizona and sought to build the Main Street development in Glendale, filed for bankruptcy in Las Vegas at the end of May. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Burton, who was part of Rightpath Limited Development Group, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection citing $310 million in debt and lest than $6,600 in assets.
